Overview
Designed to unlock the full potential of the Sony FX5, this accessory ecosystem enhances handheld operation, power management, and viewfinder positioning without compromising the cameras original functionality. A new handle rod clamp for the Sony XLR-H2 enables the attachment of a sideways 15mm rod without requiring a camera cage, creating a streamlined platform for mounting accessories. When paired with the TWIST Mount EVF System and the new FX5 EVF Extension Cable, users can operate both the electronic viewfinder and the cameras high-quality 32-bit float audio simultaneously, delivering greater flexibility for professional productions.
The system also introduces new swing-away V-Mount and Gold Mount battery plates featuring three integrated power outputs, including a reversible D-Tap, 2-pin LEMO, and 3-pin Fischer connector with run/stop capability for powering and controlling external accessories. A versatile quick release baseplate combines sliding ARCA and ARRI dovetail compatibility with an integrated lens adapter support system, making transitions between support rigs fast and secure. Completing the system is the Sony FX5 EVF Cable / Handle Riser, which shares the same footprint as the new XLR handle to ensure compatibility with third-party cages while also supporting the original Sony XLR-H1 handle through an adapter. Side mounting points on the EVF cable assembly allow direct attachment of the TWIST Mount EVF Knuckle, while the cable and bracket design positions the viewfinder centrally above the handle, providing a balanced, compact handheld configuration thats ideal for run-and-gun filmmaking.
About the MID49 Sony FX5 EVF Cable and Mounting Kit
Sony FX5 EVF Cable Handle RiserAllows both the FX5 EVF (DVF-EL1) and the FX5 XLR Handle (XLR-H2) to be attached simultaneously.
The extension cable base screws into the FX5 body using two captive 1/4-20 screws, and the Mi-Shoe adapter slides in from the back and attaches to the cable base using two M4 captive screws.
All 21 pins on the Mi-Shoe pass through, so any Sony / 3rd party Mi-Shoe accessories can be used. Note that traditional camera flashes will not work on the hot shoe.
Once both components are on the FX5, Sony’s XLR-H2 handle can be installed, and audio will pass through to the camera body.
The EVF end of the cable has two 1/4-20 holes for attaching the DVF-EL1, one 1/4-20 with ARRI locating pins on the side for attaching the included TWIST Mount EVF Spud, and one on the bottom for general use.
The 18″ flexible cable allows the viewfinder to be positioned in a variety of ways, including shoulder mount or above the XLR handle. For custom cable lengths, please email info@mid49.com.
Sony FX5 XLR-H2 15mm Rod ClampAttaches to the two 1/4-20 holes on the top of the Sony XLR-H2 handle and wraps under the XLR module to provide a sideways 15mm rod clamp for mounting the included TWIST EVF System.
TWIST Mount EVF Kit with KnuckleThe Double Sided NATO Rail to 15mm Rod attaches to the sideways 15mm rod clamp and has safety pins on each end to prevent accidental accessory removal.
The TWIST Mount EVF Knuckle has a NATO clamp and variable-friction 15mm clamp so you can grab and twist the EVF without loosening a thumbscrew.
