About the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S II
Our professional standard zoom lens has evolved. With an internal zoom plus next-generation autofocus and S-line optics, it’s lighter, sharper, better balanced—and better for video. When you can only take one lens, this workhorse will bring the story home.

Best in class 24-70mm f/2.8 full-frame zoom lens

In a feat of engineering, the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S II is the first professional 24-70mm lens to pack an internal zoom—and it’s also the lightest lens in its class.1 Weighing in at a cool 675 g, this super-versatile lens is now more stable and easier to handle thanks to a barrel that doesn’t extend or retract when you change focal lengths.

World’s first

24-70mm lens with internal zoom

675 g

Lightest 24-70mm f/2.8 lens

Versatile, steady, robust

The internal zoom maximises the versatility of this 24-70mm lens beautifully. Weather sealing is robust and fewer moving parts are exposed to the elements, so you can confidently go wherever the story takes you without worrying about your gear.2 Plus, there’s no weight shift: you can zoom without needing to adjust your grip—and the lens barrel won’t extend and interfere with your close-up shots.

Weatherproof build

Dust- and drip-resistant

Internal zoom

No shift in centre of gravity

Better handling for video

Flexible on a gimbal

If you’re shooting with a gimbal, the internal zoom lets you change focal lengths without needing to rebalance the lens. The centre of gravity stays consistent—and your shots stay on point.

Accessory friendly

Since the lens barrel doesn’t extend or retract, accessories like matte boxes or large front-mounted filters stay locked in place as you zoom. No need to reposition them mid-shoot.

No front-heavy shifts

Balance is maintained even if heavy external video accessories are attached to the front of this lens. And when your rig stays balanced, your shots stay smooth.

Near-zero focus breathing

With focus breathing cut in half compared to the previous generation of this zoom lens, transitions couldn’t look more natural. Even during extreme focus pulls, your angle of view won’t change.

Take a look inside

Mew S-line optical design

Fewer elements are used to greater effect in an optical design that boasts dual-sided aspherical lens elements and ED glass. Image quality is superb, and the lens is lighter.

Custom lens coatings

You can shoot into the light without worrying about flare or ghosting thanks to anti-reflective Meso Amorphous and ARNEO coatings, plus customised multilayer Super Integrated coatings.

Multi-focusing system

Multiple groups of lens elements move in precise synchronisation for ultra-precise AF and peak optical performance.

SSVCM

This is the first Nikon zoom lens to feature the Silky Swift Voice Coil Motor (SSVCM). For stunningly fast and accurate AF performance.

Our best AF system yet

5x faster AF performance. With autofocus this swift, you won’t need a second chance.3
40% reduction in scan time at the telephoto end. Great if you’re shooting fast-paced action.
50% quieter than before, even when shooting at the highest AF speeds.
60% quicker focus tracking when zooming. Keeps subjects sharp as the focal length changes.

Smoother, better-defined bokeh

The new optical design boasts precision crafted aspherical lens elements that shape the light beautifully. Background and foreground bokeh is well defined, and graded so smoothly that you could be forgiven for thinking you shot with a fast prime lens.

Rounded 11-blade aperture

A new 11-blade aperture produces more circular bokeh, while the new S-line optical design ensures point light sources like stars and city lights will be sharp and clear. Coupled with the constant f/2.8 aperture and close focusing prowess of this professional zoom lens, you can shoot cinematic close-ups in any light. Or go for mesmerising low-light nightscapes and landscapes.

It’s not macro, but it gets close

Work with an extremely short minimum focus distance of just 0.24 m at 24mm, and 0.33 m at 70mm. Maximum magnification is 0.21x at 24mm, and 0.32x at 70mm.
