When it comes to focus breathing, the Arcana series performs at an industry-average level. Across the full focus throw and within the 1.5x anamorphic expansion, breathing is kept within an acceptable range.
Distortion
The Arcana 45mm and 75mm, benefiting from precision optics and optimized cylindrical lens groups, clearly outperform competitors in distortion control. They lag slightly behind higher-end lenses such as the PAVO, but within the same price range, the Arcana stands out as a strong performer with impressive distortion control.
Chromatic Aberration
By utilising up to 3 ED (Extra-low Dispersion) elements, the Arcana series effectively controls chromatic aberration—a common challenge in anamorphic lens design. It delivers natural colour reproduction and sharp details from edge to edge, even in high-contrast highlight areas. At T2.1 wide open, colour fringing is kept to a minimum. In contrast, chromatic aberration is often more noticeable on other brands and lenses under similar shooting conditions.
Lens Flare & Bokeh
Engineered with a physical elliptical aperture, the Arcana leverages its 1.5x squeeze factor to deliver oval bokeh that rivals 2.0x anamorphic lenses. When capturing point light sources—like urban lights at night or sunbeams streaming through trees—the background highlights render as beautifully stretched horizontal ovals, creating an immersive widescreen visual tension and emotional atmosphere.
Flare
The Arcana series features a unique white coating design, delivering a creative visual effect known as “environmentally tinted flare.” When point light sources or highlight areas appear in the frame, the lens produces beautifully stretched horizontal flare streaks with a subtle tint that reflects the surrounding environment.
