Overview
The LR2M sensor has a 20° field of view and is designed for mid to long focal length lenses. Its companion sensor unit, LR2W, provides a 50° field of view for short to mid-focal length lenses. This industry-first focus assist system overlays graphics onto a focus pullers monitor and works seamlessly with the Video Interface Unit to display distance and depth information for up to 16 horizontal measurement zones across the frame. It also allows for a smooth transition between manual and autofocus modes.
The LR2M is the first and only focus assist system for modern high-resolution cameras. It incorporates an infrared distance measuring system with 16 distinct measurement zones, giving focus pullers the ability to accurately judge focus distance for the entire scene without taking their eyes off the monitor. It is perfect for a variety of shots, including crane, car-to-car, dolly, steadicam, and low-light situations. It is compatible with various units, power cables, serial cables, and accessories, and a manual is available for further information.

About the Preston Light Ranger 2-M
The Light Ranger 2 is the first and only focus assist system designed for modern high-resolution cameras. The LR2M incorporates an infrared distance measuring system with 16 distinct measurement zones, allowing the focus puller to visualise the depth of an entire scene without looking away from the monitor. In this era of shooting the rehearsal, the LR2 provides focus pullers with innovative tools to accurately judge focus distance in even the toughest shooting scenarios.
Each of the 16 simultaneous distance measurements corresponds to a specific section of the image, and is represented with a green/white rectangle overlayed directly on top of the image at that location. The height of each bar corresponds to its distance in relation to the current knob setting of the HU4, giving immediate feedback to the focus puller for how to rotate the knob to bring any object into focus. White rectangles above the horizontal line on the monitor indicate the subject is further away than the current knob setting of the HU4, while rectangles below that line indicate a subject that is closer than the knob setting. Once the subject is within the depth of field (at the current HU4 knob setting), the rectangle(s) over that subject turns green.
The LR2M is perfect for crane, car-to-car, dolly, steadicam, and other shots where the camera is moving. It excels in low-light and any other situation where shallow depth-of-field makes critical focus a necessity.
Compatible with
Units: MDR-3, MDR-4, Hand Unit 4, LR2 Video Interface Unit.
Power cables: 4799, 4641, 4677, 4699
Serial cables: 6015

Operating Range 1’ to 40+’ (typically). Actual range depends on the size and
reflectivity of the subject as well as the presence of smoke
and/or fog either of which will diminish the usable range.

Detection zone width (each) 1.25°
Emission wavelength 905nm
IEC Eye Safety Class 1 (Eyesafe)
Dimensions 3.9in x 2.8in x 2.5in
Weight 592g
Power 10-32VDC through Serial Cable or
the optional PN 4641 2-pin Lemo to D-Tap power cable.
The optional power cable is highly recommended as voltage fluctuations at the camera can result in intermittent operation.
